Timeline and expectations
Admission timeline and expectations
Successful students normally begin their study in September (i.e., Fall). January (i.e., Winter) start for the research program is possible but not common, and permitted only under exceptional circumstances (e.g., faculty request). However, Winter-start for the professional program is not available.
Application rounds
BME offers multiple application rounds to benefit both domestic and international applicants. Students normally apply as early as November for September entry in the next year. Enrollment capacity is limited and diminishes with each round of student admission. Thus, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply as early as practicable to secure a position.

Table: Research and professional program application schedules. The maximum number of graduate students per annum that can be supported by departmental and supervisor resources is reported as “Normal” enrollment capacity in the above table. Application periods start at the beginning of the relevant month through to the end of the closing month. For example, in round 1, the application period extends from November 1 through February 28 of next year.
*International MEng applicants should apply by February 28 to be competitive and must apply by April 15 for consideration. The BME Admissions Committee will begin evaluations, and issue offers immediately after Round 1.
Decision outcome
All applicants are informed about the admission decision before the beginning of the respective start session. For example, applicants who applied for September (i.e., Fall) start will be informed about the admission decision by August at the latest. Successful applicants are likely to be informed earlier, although the timing may vary depending on the application period.
